microbial ecology and evolution

How do microbial organisms and communities interact, function, and evolve?

Broadly, I investigate how microbial communities function and evolve, shaping Earth’s biogeochemical cycles. I use genetic, molecular, and computational tools to understand evolutionary and ecological processes in the natural world. I am especially interested in microbial life associated with foundational marine species as well microbes in extreme environments both of which 1) can reveal the diversity and potential limits of life on Earth, and 2) play critical roles in our changing climate.
